SCIATICA NERVE DISORDER

What is the sciatica nerve disorder syndrome?

It is the pain along the large sciatic nerve that runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and along the back of each leg, a relatively common form of back pain.

What is the cause of this troublesome disorder?

The pain is mainly caused by the pressure on the nerves resulting from a herniated disc, which has protruded from its normal position in the vertebral column and thus putting pressure on the nerve root. Another cause of the pain is due to the degeneration of the disc, a natural process of aging.

What are some symptoms of this disorder?

Common sciatica nerve disorder symptoms includes painful buttock and/or leg worsen when sitting, burning or tingling sensation down the legs, weakness and numbness or difficulty moving leg or foot, constant pain in one side of the buttock, or shooting pain causing difficulty to stand from the sitting position.

Does this disorder cause any permanent damage?

Although very painful, the sciatica nerve disorder rarely causes permanent nerve damage. Most pain syndromes result from inflammation, which can get better within a few months if treated properly.

How can acupuncture treat sciatica nerve disorder?

According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain is resulted from the blockage of vital energy within the body meridians, preventing the free flow of circulation. When this occurs, energy cannot supply the vital elements to the surrounding tissues of the blockage for nourishment and thus cause pain. With a pattern of acupuncture points along the meridians of which are blocked, acupuncture treatment can successfully remove the blockage to restore the free flow of energy to relieve pain. With proper treatment, pain can be alleviated within a short period of time.
